Benefits:

PML designed this 722.6/NAG1 transmission pan for:

  • Cooling — fins and aluminum construction
  • Clearance — only 5/8 inch deeper than stock pan
  • Drain plug — on the side for safety
  • Secure seal — machined flat flange, no more retaining clips and formed gasket

The Chrysler/Mercedes NAG1, 722.6 family of transmission includes W5A580, WA580, W5A380, and W5J400.

Applications:

This PML transmission pan fits the 722.6/NAG1 (W5A580, WA580, W5A380, W5J400) transmission.

PML designed this 722.6/NAG1 pan for vehicles that do not have space for an extra capacity pan and still want the cooling benefits of finned sand cast aluminum construction and a drain.

Typical vehicles that can use this pan are:

  • Jeep Wrangler 2012 to 2018 (maybe 2019)
  • Mercedes Sedans
  • Cars, trucks and SUVs that want a finned, heavy duty NAG1/722.6 transmission pan and have little clearance

Always check your vehicle before ordering to verify set up and clearance.

Check that the drain hole near the driver side front corner willl work on your vehicle. On most vehicles, the drain hole is located so that the pan can drain completely and fluid will not drain on to the frame or exhaust. Call to ask about custom machining if you need the drain hole relocated.

PML makes three pans for the NAG1/722.6 transmission. Need help figuring out which pan you need? Check out this video or see Guidelines, below.

General Guidelines:

To determine which PML NAG1, 722.6 pan will work best, check how much space is available for a larger transmission pan. Look at the space from the stock transmission pan to:

  • Frame
  • Exhaust
  • Ground (the transmission pan should not be lower than the frame)
  • Drive Shaft
  • Skid or sound dampening plates
  • Other vehicle parts

Little or no space, like Jeep Wrangler and some cars:
NAG1, 722.6 Stock Capacity Transmission Pan (this pan)

Some space, like Grand Cherokee, some cars (Magnum, Charger), some Sprinter:
NAG1, 722.6 2 Quarts Over Transmission Pan

Lots of ground clearance, like Sprinter:
NAG1, 722.6 2.5 Quarts Over Transmission Pan

These are GENERAL guidelines. PML cannot tell which pan will work since vehicle configurations vary.

Gasket

PML makes a cork composite gasket for PML NAG1/722.6 transmission pans.

One PML gasket is included with each transmission pan.

PML NAG1/722.6 pans are not compatible with the stock gaskets. The PML gasket is not compatible with the stock pan.

RTV can be used in place of the gasket but the pan is designed to work with the gasket.

In this video, learn how this PML pan seals to the transmission housing:

PML design this pan to work with the stock filter. The Mercedes part number on the filter PML used during design and development is 140 277 00 95. No tube or filter extension are needed.

Dipstick and Transmission Fluid Level

The fluid level should be at the same level in the stock pan and a PML pan. On many vehicles, the dipstick uses the bottom of the pan as a stop. The bottom of the PML pan is at the same location as the bottom of the stock pan.

Many vehicles with these transmissions do not have a dipstick and the correct fluid level is based on temperature. The cap for the transmission fluid fill and level check can say "See Dealer". The installer of a replacement pan needs to have the correct tools to replace the transmission fluid according to the factory instructions.

Shield on Passenger's Front Corner

Some vehicles have a shield that attaches to the retaining clip at the front, passenger side corner of the stock pan.

Pans available since March 2016 have a tab for the shield to bolt on to. For pans before March 2016, an installer would bend the shield to bolt onto the PML pan.

Drain Hole

PML NAG1, 722.6 stock capacity transmission pan drain hole

PML places the drain hole on the driver's side, near the front of the vehicle (as shown in picture).

A magnetic drain plug is included with the pan and all the mounting bolts. The side location is safer than the bottom since there is less chance for damage than on the bottom. There is still easy access for maintenance.

Optional Machining for Temperature Sending Unit

Optionally, PML can drill and tap a 1/8 NPT hole for a temperature sending unit. This would be for an aftermarket temperature gage. There is a custom machining charge.

PML designed two locations for adding a hole for a temperature sending unit, one on the passenger/right side and one on the driver/left side. Select the option before adding pan to cart. A plug for the hole is included.

The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Check your aftermarket gage to verify the thread specifications for the sending unit before ordering. Call or email if you need a different size.
