Number of Bolts: 15
This PML extra capacity heavy duty transmission oil pan fits the Dodge RFE series of transmissions, such as the 68RFE, 545RFE, and 45RFE. It is designed specifically for trucks and SUVs with exhaust or cross member under the stock pan.
Benefits:
- Extra capacity
- Follows shape of stock pan for exhaust and frame clearance
- Fins and aluminum construction to dissipate heat from transmission fluid
- Drain plug for easier maintenance
- Thick walls to add strength to the transmission housing
- Thick gasket flange, machined flat, for a leak-free seal
- Clearance for cross members and exhausts routed across the rear of the pan
Applications:
PML designed this 2 quart over stock transmission oil pan with a step at the rear to clear the exhaust routed under the stock pan on some trucks and SUVs, including those with Hemi engines. This pan can replace the stock pan on many configurations of these vehicles with a Chrysler Dodge 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, and 68RFE:
- Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2011
- Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2012
- Ram 1500, 2002 to 2016 (2012 to 2014 4.7l engine trucks check clearance)
- Ram 2500 and 3500, Hemi engine, 2006 to 2018
- Ram 2500 Power Wagon, Hemi engine, 2006 to 2018
- Ram 2500 and 3500, with 6.7 liter diesel engine, 2007 1/2 and newer (some 3500 trucks may need an AS69RC pan)
- Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 or 5.7 V8 engine, 1999 to 2004
- Jeep Liberty, 2002 to 2004, 3.7 (check clearance, see Jeep Transmission Pan Guidelines web page)
- Jeep Liberty CRD, 2005 and 2006 (check skid plate)
- Jeep Wrangler 2010 and 2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)
Always check your vehicle to verify configuration and clearance. This pan will not work on 8 or 9 speed or Aisin transmissions.
2013 and newer diesel engine trucks: cooler lines are routed under the stock pan on these trucks. This pan will not clear them.
Jeep Owners: Some vehicles, like 2005 to 2013 Grand Cherokees, have the exhaust or frame near or under the stock pan. There may seem to be clearance for a PML pan, but there is probably not enough space. PML part number 11161 has not been tried and is slightly different from other PML 45RFE to 68RFE pans. See our Jeep Transmission Pan Guidelines web page.
Skid Plates: If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission pan. Some Jeeps and a few Dodge vehicles have skid plates that limit clearance.

Comparison of PML RFE Transmission Oil Pans
PML makes four pans for the 68RFE, 45RFE, 5-45RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, 68RFE transmissions. All fit the transmission and the different designs suit a variety of vehicles and applications. Click on an image to view larger in a new tab or window.
Front of pans. 11078, 11079 and 11161 are parallel to ground when installed. 10304 slants toward the drain on the left/driver side when installed.
Rear of pans. 11078 and 11079 step down to clear the Hemi engine exhaust routing.
Inside of pans. Extra capacity pans, PML part numbers 11079, 10304, and 11161 have baffles to reduce sloshing, keep fluid near filter pickup, and act as heat sinks for cooling.
Filter Information
This pan works with OEM/stock filters.
The filter bolts on to the valve body. No filter support or extension is needed. The fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications.
Thanks to Eric who provided part numbers for filters that will work with all PML Dodge RFE pans:
- OEM: 5013470AE
- Fleetguard: TF15072
- FRAM: FT1223
- WIX: 58843 (kit)

There was an old style filter from 2002 or 2003 that does NOT work with this pan. We have heard that these filters are obsolete. These filters were called 2WD filters and had a short pick up tube.
Gasket Information
For a gasket, PML recommends an inexpensive cork or cork composite type gasket. Dodge/Chrysler recommends the Mopar silicon gasket maker, which comes in a tube, for many Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles. This will also work fine with a PML pan.
An example of a cork gasket is Transmaxx 72300, shown below.

Bolts
PML includes new mounting bolts with the transmission pan. The PML bolts are longer and the thread diameter and threads per inch are the same. PML bolts are longer since the flange on the PML pan is much thicker than the flange on the stock OEM pan.
Five holes on the transmission are NOT through holes. Check that the PML bolts do not bottom out. This depends on the thickness of the gasket and depth of holes in the housing.
Make sure the holes on the housing are clean and free of debris.
PML bolts are longer because of the thick flange on the PML pan. Click on image to view larger.

Cast-in baffles control sloshing, act as a heat sink and direct the fluid to the filter pick-up.
Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining
Optionally, this pan can be machined for a temperature sending unit. There is boss on the driver side of the pan for this.
If you would like PML to drill and tap hole, select the option before ordering. There is a machining charge. A plug for the hole is included.
The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.
PML Transmission Pan Compared to Stock
There are several OEM stock pans for this transmission. This shows the PML pan compared to two of them.
