PML designed this Chrysler/Dodge transmission pan for these transmissions:

  • A904: 40RH, 42RH, 42RE, 44RE
  • A904: 30RH

This pan may also fit:

  • A998: 31RH
  • A999: 32RH

Benefits:

  • Extra capacity
  • Fins for cooling
  • Drain hole and magnetic drain plug
  • Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
  • Machined gasket surface for sealing securely to the housing
  • Works with stock filter and gasket so no custom parts needed
  • Internal baffles

Applications:

Always check your vehicle to verify transmission and available space. Configurations vary. The exhaust system and frame cross members are the primary concerns with this pan.

  • 1994-2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with 3.9 V6
  • 1995-2003 Dodge Ram Van 1500 with 3.9 or 5.2
  • 1988-1994 Dodge Ram Van 150 with 3.9 or 5.2
  • 2000-2003 Dodge Dakota with 3.9 (4WD Dakotas will need to have cross member loosened to install pan, 2WD and 4WD should check ground clearance)
  • 1987-1999 Dodge Dakota with 3.9 or 5.2 (Check exhaust routing and 4WD Dakotas will need to have cross member loosened to install pan)
  • 1998-2003 Dodge Durango with 3.9 or 5.2
  • 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.0 (may also have AW4 transmission)
  • 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.0 or 5.2 (may also have AW4 transmission and may have clearance issues with stock exhaust)
  • 1987-2001 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 (may also have AW4 transmission and may have clearance issues with stock exhaust)
  • 1993-2002 Jeep Wrangler with 4.0 (may have clearance issues with stock exhaust and the frame crossmember)

Dodge and Jeep uses both Chrysler and Aisan Warner transmissions and route the exhaust in a variety of ways. Check your stock pan against the PML pan to verify that the shape of the pan perimeter and the bolt pattern are the same as the PML pan.

This pan can also fit the 30RH transmission, also called the A904. Dodge introduced this transmission in the 1960s and it is found in light duty applications.

This pan may also fit 31RH and 32RH transmissions.

Filter and Gasket

PML designed this pan to work with the stock filter and gasket.

The filter bolts on to the valve body. There is no extension needed. The filter pick up and fluid level are at the same location with the PML pan as with the stock pan.

PML recommends a gasket made of cork, rubber/cork, or similar flexible material.

Bolts and Drain

PML includes a magnetic drain plug and new mounting bolts with each pan.

The drain hole is on the driver side of the pan.

Bolt Note: Vince with a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee emailed us to let us know that the pan fit fine but a couple of the bolts we supply are too long for some of the holes on his Jeep. Some through holes hit the tail housing before they compress the gasket enough to prevent leaks. He added a couple washers to get the bolts to pull the cover up.

A stock bolt is pictured. PML's bolts are longer to accomodate the thick flange.

Baffles

The pan has cast-in baffles to reduce sloshing.

Baffles also act as a heat sink to reduce fluid temperatures.

Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining

Optionally, PML can drill and tap a 1/8 NPT hole for a temperature sending unit. This would be for an aftermarket temperature gage. There is a custom machining charge.

There is a boss (thick area) on both the driver side of the pan for this for this purpose. Select the option before adding pan to cart. A plug for the hole is included.

The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Check your aftermarket gage to verify the thread specifications for the sending unit before ordering. Call or email if you need a different size.
